Observation:
One of the most outstanding and exclusive varieties for 2026! A selection developed by Alexander Ivanovich Chulkov, derived from the Avatar seedless variety.
Sergei is highly vigorous and features a distinctive lilac-hued vine (reminiscent of the 'Avatar' variety). The flowers are perfect (bisexual), and pollination is uniform, with absolutely no issues regarding uneven berry set (millerandage). Yields are high and consistent. The vine typically sets two flower clusters per shoot.
The cluster is beautifully formed, highly marketable, and visually appealing. The berries are striking and elongated (finger-shaped), featuring a distinct dimple at the tip. They measure 45–50 mm or more in length. The dimples are consistent across all berries and remain visible even at full maturity. The flesh near the skin is red.
Sergey ripens very early. The test clusters were fully ready by September 7–9 in the year the vines were grafted, whereas the Avatar seedless variety (on mature, fruit-bearing vines) was not yet ready for consumption. Sergey ripens approximately three weeks earlier than Avatar, making it a very attractive option for the early-season market segment.
It has a harmonious flavor and crisp, very firm flesh. The sugar content is higher than that of the 'Avatar' variety. Visually, 'Sergey' is strikingly impressive; the berries look exotic and are of good size. Furthermore, it is an early-ripening and high-yielding variety.
It withstood all three rainfalls perfectly; not a single berry cracked. The variety is suitable for transport and has a good shelf life. "Sergey" is one of the most attractive and marketable early-ripening varieties.
