Observation:
Seedling 68/3 – Edelweiss. Parent pair: Talisman x Slavuta. The seedling will bear fruit for the fourth time in 2026. It is the only one from this cross to demonstrate both a very early ripening period and marketable commercial qualities.
The ripening period is approximately 100–105 days. It is highly vigorous, has perfect (bisexual) flowers, and the canes mature early along their entire length. This variety is very high-yielding; even after losing all its buds in mid-April and early May, it still managed to produce a crop from replacement buds and older wood.
Each shoot bears two flower clusters (they can be pruned short to 1–2 buds). The cluster is large, weighing 800–1,400 g. The berries are firm and have a harmonious, balanced flavor; they weigh 10–12 g and are yellow in color.
This variety is very low-maintenance, stable, and commercially viable. It has withstood all weather conditions excellently over four years of trials. The berries hold firmly to the stalk. It shows good resistance to fungal diseases and has a frost tolerance of -23°C. I believe Edelweiss has a bright future; it is ideally suited for the early-season berry market, including production under cover.
