Observation:
This sultana is native to America (not to be confused with similar names). As far as I know, there are four varieties (hybrid forms) called "Phoenix." Two of them were bred in America and two in Europe. I received this sultana with the tags: "Red Phoenix seedless."
The vigor of growth is above average, but the vegetative mass growth and vine maturation are good (somewhat similar to Ararat). Ripening is early, approximately 110-115 days. The yield is very high, with two inflorescences per shoot and numerous runner clusters from the first buds.
The clusters are very large. Before flowering, they are broadly winged, reminiscent of the structure of Veles. The average cluster weight ranges from 600 g to 1100 g. Some specimens have exceeded 2 kg. The flowers are bisexual.
The berries are bright red, weighing 4-5 g. The flesh is firm, with a pleasant aftertaste and a good balance of sugars. Seedlessness class II.
Red Phoenix didn't differ from other varieties in the collection in terms of disease. During September outbreaks of mildew and powdery mildew, the leaves remained clear and didn't require any additional treatment. Frost resistance is approximately -23°C. We are continuing to monitor this further.
