Observation:
A sensational new product for 2024 is seedling 101/7. Probably the most extravagant and beautiful seedling from the entire Dozen x Ratatouille combination. Has great growth power. Lays 2 inflorescences on the shoot. It got its name because of its unusual flowering: it does not shed its caps, like other forms and varieties, and the fertilization process occurs in a closed shell. Afterwards, the cap greatly increases in size and bursts like a ripe walnut; this phenomenon reminded me of the blooming of a water lily flower.
The seedling matured in 2024 on August 13. In a normal year, expect early or early-mid ripening. In the first fruiting, the bunch is beautifully made, without unnecessary density. The berry is ribbed, with pronounced slices and segments. This is its natural pollination; no stimulants or growth hormones (gibberellin, forchlorfenuron) were used. Color yellow. The flesh is meaty-crispy with a chic palette of flavors inherited from Ratatouille. The most prominent flavors are pineapple and tropical fruits. The weight of the berries is 12-14 g. It needs to be grafted onto a full-fledged vineyard, where the conditions will be greater. There are 2 seeds in the berry.
The presentation is top notch! The seedling is resistant to cracking and withstood all the rains perfectly. It should also be noted that there is increased resistance to fungal diseases. The berry is very transportable, holds tightly to the stalk and has a high shelf life. When cut (at room temperature), the bunch does not lose turgor for about 7-8 days. There is an edge on the leaf, which may indicate increased frost resistance, but this needs to be checked...
8 years of my attempts to breed a berry shaped like a pumpkin were not in vain)
There are very few vines on the seedling, so it was decided to postpone the full sale of the cuttings. Public sale of propagation material is planned for autumn 2025.
